Given the success of 2018’s God of War, it was only a matter of time before it got a sequel, and that’s exactly what’s coming. God of War: Ragnarok is scheduled to release sometime in 2022 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. However, before Kratos’ next outing arrives, Sony decided to throw fans a bone with a surprise announcement - God of War is coming to PC on January 14, 2022.
Sony surprises fans with God of War PC port
With little to no fanfare nor leaks behind it (well, technically, the God of War PC port was leaked a few months ago), Sony just announced that God of War is coming to PC less than 100 days from now. Digital copies of 2018’s God of War on the PC will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Earlier this year, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Jim Ryan, confirmed the company’s commitment to porting more of their exclusives to the PC. So far, Ryan has stayed true to his earlier promise. After making Days Gone available to PC gamers in May, Sony announced that the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection was coming to the PC platform in early 2022 as well. However, while most would have expected Sony’s PC port announcements for 2021 to end with that, the studio went ahead and surprised everyone with an arguably bigger port. Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has sold 19.5 million copies since it was released in 2018, making it the best-selling PS4 game ever by a long shot. Now, we can expect that tally to go up even higher with the game set to join the aforementioned titles and Horizon: Zero Dawn on the PC. According to Sony, God of War’s PC port will launch with all the content from the PlayStation version, including several shield skins and a bonus armor set for Kratos and his son, Atreus. In addition to this, PC gamers will get to enjoy 2018’s God of War in its most glorious version yet. God of War will support 4K and 21:9 ultrawide resolutions, as well as unlocked framerates, Nvidia DLSS support, and advanced graphic settings, among others. God of War’s PC port has leaked twice this year alone. More recently, the game’s PC port headlined the recent GeForce Now leak. Now, Nvidia has since confirmed the leak as “legitimate”. This, then, begs the question, what else is coming? The aforementioned leak contained an absurd amount of unannounced games and ports. Even if not everything is real, gamers will celebrate if at least even half of the list sees the light of day. With that said, the announcement of God of War’s PC port is not all good news. Sony’s 2022 schedule is packed full of huge exclusives and ports. Case in point, 2018’s God of War arrives on the PC just a month before the delayed release of Horizon Forbidden West on the PS4 and the PS5 in February. Sony’s decision to bring the God of War reboot to the PC might just be the studio’s way to soften the blow of the sequel’s eventual delay.
