The ability to go in for a quick match whenever and wherever is what has led to the numerous mobile MOBA games that are currently out on the market today. But, because there are so many to choose from, newcomers to the genre might not know which one to play and why a particular game is worth playing. Luckily, we are here to help. Scroll down below to find out which ones are the best mobile MOBA games available today.
Mobile Legends
Mobile Legends might not be the most original MOBA title out there, but it’s certainly the most popular. Popular all across the globe, especially in Southeast Asia, Mobile Legends features an ever-expanding case of heroes with stable servers, minimal matchmaking wait times, as well as short but intense battles that are the best example of how a mobile MOBA should be. The game also doesn’t lock anything behind a paywall. It even lets players trial a hero so that they can decide better whether or not to buy the hero. With a thriving playerbase and a growing competitive scene that recently saw the conclusion of the game’s penultimate tournament, the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M2 World Championship, Mobile Legends is the mobile MOBA game to beat today.
League of Legends: Wild Rift
Riot has slowly expanded on the League of Legends franchise in recent years. In addition to the card game, Legends of Runeterra, as well as a battler Teamfight Tactics, Riot saw fit to try and capture the mobile market as well with League of Legends: Wild Rift. Mind you, Wild rift is more than just a League of Legends port. In fact, it’s not a port at all. Developed from the ground up and created specifically for mobile phones, Wild Rift features a slightly different set of characters, a redesigned map, as well as optimized controls, that should make it as popular as its PC counterpart in due time.
Vainglory
Unlike the other mobile MOBA games out there, Vainglory stands out because it’s available on other platforms. In addition to being available on iOS and Android devices, Vainglory can also be played on the PC. It also supports cross-platform play, which means that you can play with and against players on the PC even if you’re on your mobile phone. As for the actual gameplay itself, it sports traditional five-on-five MOBA gameplay. However, it does attempt to switch things up by adding different types of game modes, like five-minute brawls for those who literally only want to play for a few minutes before going back to whatever they were doing before playing.
Extraordinary Ones
Extraordinary Ones is one of the more unique MOBAs on our list in that it literally goes on full anime. The game doesn’t just feature known anime characters like My Hero Academia’s lead character, Izuku Midoriya, but the entire world and even the gameplay is built to mirror what’s typically seen in Japanese anime shows. What we mean is that the characters are very flashy and colorful, with the movements and combat more fluid compared to other MOBA titles. Even the art style is different. But while the game seems like it was built for anime fans, Extraordinary Ones is for everyone. Even if you’re not an anime fan yourself, you might be able to appreciate how much more “modern” the gameplay feels like compared to other mobile MOBA games.
Legend of Ace
An interesting MOBA hybrid, Legend of Ace combines traditional MOBA and TCG (Trading Card Game) gameplay. What this creates is a unique take on the usual MOBA experience where you can customize each champion that you can choose according to your own preferred playstyle by using the different cards available in the game. While everything else isn’t as unique as the premise, Legend of Ace is intriguing enough, at the very least, to warrant a try. If nothing else, you’ll have a wasted 5 to 10 minutes trying out a game or two to see if it’s right for you.
Arena of Valor
Not unlike other mobile MOBA games on our list, Tencent Games’ Arena of Valor doesn’t even try to reinvent the genre. Mind you, this doesn’t mind that the game feels just like every other MOBA out there. Rather, Tencent decided that, instead of focusing on making the game feel and play different, they made sure that it delivered a very polished gameplay experience without deviating too much from the standard gameplay of games in the genre. If you’re looking for a smooth gameplay experience that’s available on both mobile devices, as well as the Nintendo Switch, Arena of Valor is for you. As a bonus, you can play 3v3 matches in the game as well.
Marvel Super War
Most superhero games tend to be quick cash grabs that aren’t really well-made. Although the verdict is still out on Marvel Super War being a money-first game, it is surprisingly well-built even if the gameplay is far from unique. As you might have guessed from the name itself, Marvel Super War is the MOBA take on the Marvel universe. Because of this, it’s a game where you can get a chance to play as your favourite Marvel hero or villain in a 5v5 set-up. If nothing else, it’s the ultimate fan service game for those dismayed by the botched Marvel’s Avengers title.
Onmyoji Arena
We wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know about NetNease’s Onmyoji games. They’re not exactly that popular outside of China. However, the MOBA take on the games, Onmyoji Arena, isn’t half-bad and is actually one of the best mobile MOBA games available out there. The game features characters from Onmyoji games complete with voice-acting talent and the polish of the more popular MOBA games out there. In addition to that, what makes Onmyoji Arena unique is that it has multiple game modes available on top of the usual five-on-five battles. This includes a 3v3v3 battle royale mode where, as the name suggests, three teams composed of three players each can battle it out against each other in what is an incredibly fun if chaotic mode. For that reason alone, Onmyoji Arena is worth taking a look.
