There’s a rumor going around that Avatar 2’s first trailer will be shown off in theaters on May 6, during screenings of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The difference is that the House of Mouse intends to show the trailer off before the Doctor Strange sequel starts, not after. The Direct reports that Disney will release the first trailer for Avatar 2 on May 6 once Doctor Strange 2 hits theaters. If true, it would invert MCU’s post-credits scenes, which, as per the name, are usually shown off once the movie has ended. Although Disney and Marvel Studios is no stranger to post-credits scene trailer releases, as was the case with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home last year, it’s still interesting to consider why Disney is doing this. If nothing else, Disney is securing a big box office take for Benedict Cumberbatch’s second solo outing in the MCU, as both are some of the biggest blockbusters of the year. As always, Disney has done an excellent job shielding Avatar 2 from prying eyes. The handful of confirmation info that we know about the follow-up to 2009’s historic film is that Jake and Neytiri, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña, respectively, now have a family. However, their peaceful life will change once the humans come back to continue what they started in the first film. In addition, Avatar 2, along with other sequels, will explore more of Pandora as well as the other cultures and tribes that inhabit the foreign planet. To date, Avatar remains the highest-grossing film in cinematic history with a global box office take of almost $2.85 billion. 20th Century President Steve Asbell all but guaranteed that the new Avatar movie will come out in December. Coincidentally, it will have been a year after James Cameron dropped new images from Avatar 2 by then. With Avatar 2’s first trailer dropping in front of audiences just as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness starts, all bets are off on just how much bigger these two movies can get. Speaking of Avatar, there are a bunch of other projects in the works that are based on the Disney IP right now. For example, Ubisoft confirmed at E3 2021 that it was working on an action-adventure game set in the world of Avatar, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, with a massive games showcase reportedly planned for later this year. Meanwhile, Avatar: Reckoning, a mobile MMO, is also scheduled to arrive later this year.
