Blizzard released World of Warcraft Classic in 2019 with the promise of bringing back the so-called Halycon days of the MMO. Three years later, the game has since been updated twice if you include the Wrath of the Lich King expansion that’s coming later this year. But, if we believe the latest rumors, it won’t be long before the Cataclysm update is added to the game. Wowhead reports that Blizzard has sent out surveys to World of Warcraft Classic players to pick their brains about which platforms they play on and their gaming habits. The survey also outlines all of the potential features that could be added to World of Warcraft Classic if Cataclysm is implemented as well as what kind of changes they’d like to see to Cataclysm, why they wouldn’t want to see Cataclysm Classic, and if they’d prefer other expansions. This isn’t the first time that Blizzard has expressed interest in bringing the Cataclysm update to World of Warcraft. Game director, Ion Hazzikostas, previously stated in an interview (as noted by Wowhead) that he’s curious why many players see Cataclysm as the “beginning of the end” for World of Warcraft. The Cataclysm update brought impactful changes to World of Warcraft. It added a redesigned in-game world, Azeroth, and streamlined the gameplay experience. Many didn’t like the direction that Blizzard took with this and things haven’t been the same for World of Warcraft since. We’re curious to find out what Blizzard has planned for one of its most profitable franchises. In an ideal world, we would’ve seen Warcraft 4 by now. Unfortunately, we might never see a fourth game after Blizzard struck gold with World of Warcraft. If it’s any consolation, a few StarCraft and WarCraft devs have banded together to form Frost Giant Studios and work on Stormgate, a real-time strategy game made using Unreal Engine 5. In other news, Blizzard is preparing for the launch of Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. The former is expected to hit store shelves next year with pre-orders believed to go online in December at The Game Awards. The latter will be available to play on October 4 as a free-to-play title.
