But, while Hope is a reputable leaker, his recent claim stands in contrast to what Tom Henderson said earlier this year. Henderson also reported that Treyarch is working on a free-to-play title for next year. Even if Treyarch and the rest of Activision Blizzard can handle so many projects at once, you can’t help but wonder which of these rumors is true or not. If nothing else, it is possible that Sledgehammer is already working on the next Call of Duty game that’s going to come after Treyarch has had its turn. In this scenario, Treyarch would still be able to work on whatever project it’s believed to have in store for next year and in the year after. Ultimately, without official confirmation, we are at the mercy of Activision Blizzard. At the moment, Microsoft’s acquisition of the massive video game publisher is going well. Brazil’s regulatory body has already approved the purchase. Microsoft has also launched a webpage dedicated specifically to the buyout. It seems like Satya Nadella’s confidence that the transaction will push through wasn’t misplaced.
