The Witcher: Monster Slayer is CD Projekt RED’s answer to that witcher-sized itch that you need to scratch. While the game does bear The Witcher title, it won’t have you playing as Geralt of Rivia. It’s not even your typical The Witcher game. Instead, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a mobile AR title that lets you wield your silver and steel swords against a wide range of enemies. The best way to possibly describe the game is a cross between Niantic’s Pokémon GO and The Witcher series.

When is The Witcher: Monster Slayer’s release date?

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be available to play on iOS and Android platforms starting on July 21, 2021. Android users can pre-register for The Witcher: Monster Slayer starting today and get a Kaer Morhen Steel Sword in-game as a reward. The said weapon will give you a nice bonus of 10% extra experience points for every time that you kill a monster.

Is there a trailer for The Witcher: Monster Slayer available?

We’ve been blessed with several trailers for The Witcher: Monster Slayer so far. In addition to the announcement trailer that was released back in August 2020, the developers have since dropped more footage of the game. The latest (shown above) offers a brief 15-second look at the kind of monstrosities that you’ll encounter in The Witcher: Monster Slayer. While it’s not a sure thing yet, we might get a chance to see more footage of The Witcher: Monster Slayer on July 9. The first-ever WitcherCon is a collaborative effort between Netflix and CD Projekt RED, which is described as a celebration of all things The Witcher. Even though it might not be the star of the event, it would be a missed opportunity for Spokko and CD Projekt RED not to include The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

What is the gameplay of The Witcher: Monster Slayer like?

The best way to describe The Witcher: Monster Slayer is that it’s Pokémon GO but with The Witcher elements. Spokko’s AR game shares a lot of similarities with Pokémon GO. Despite sharing a lot of things with Pokémon GO, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will also be different in a lot of ways. The game is not just set in The Witcher universe. It will involve numerous story-driven quests similar to The Witcher games. Also, unlike in Pokémon GO where you can only battle with other trainers, you’ll get a chance to mow down monsters that you’ll encounter in The Witcher: Monster Slayer. The monster icons in The Witcher: Monster Slayer will indicate where your next target is. The closer that you are to the monster, the more that you’ll see just how grotesque it really is. With the restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic now starting to ease up, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is the perfect way to get people up and about. However, this probably isn’t the sort of game if you’re not up for some combat. In The Witcher; Monster Slayer, you’ll have to learn how to time your attacks and defenses, as well as know which potions to use. Otherwise, you’ll end up wasting all the time that you’ve spent tracking down the clues for the multiple in-game quests that may or may not lead to an epic boss battle. To help aid you in your battles, you can craft bombs and upgrade your weapons in The Witcher: Monster Slayer. You’ll also be able to train your character to become better at slaying monsters.

Is The Witcher: Monster Slayer free-to-play?

Considering that most AR games are free-to-play with microtransactions, The Witcher: Monster Slayer should not be any different. We can only hope that Spokko and CD Projekt RED don’t go ham with the microtransactions. Otherwise, forcing people to keep on spending real money to buy potions and upgrades could affect the entire experience and make The Witcher: Monster Slayer less enjoyable.
