The recently-concluded THQ Nordic Digital Showcase was a disappointment in this regard. Even if we got announcements like a new Spongebob game, an Alone in the Dark reboot, as well as a tease for the third South Park game, neither one of War, Death, Fury, and Strife, was at the event. But, with THQ confirming that it still had several unannounced games in the pipeline, many are still hoping for a Darksiders game announcement. To add fuel to the fire, someone on 4chan claiming to be a playtester revealed details about what he claims is Darksiders 4: Exodus. The main highlight from the leak is that Exodus will be a co-op looter brawler with all four Horsemen as playable characters. Basically, it will be like Darksiders: Genesis but bigger and more robust. Each Horseman would reportedly belong to an archetypal class like War being a Warrior, Fury being an Assassin, Strife being a Ranger, and Death being a Mage. The leak adds that the gameplay is solid with several new mechanics and an open-world setting like Destiny. Finally, the leaker claims that Darksiders 4 will take place directly after the events of the first Darksiders game, which makes sense since the other three are technically prequels. Unfortunately, the leak reads more like a wishlist and less like an actual report. Also, Gunfire Games, the studio behind the Darksiders series, responded to the leak with a GIF of J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy laughing.

— Gunfire Games (@gunfire_games) August 14, 2022 If that doesn’t tell you that this leak isn’t legit, then we don’t know what will. For what it’s worth, Darksiders 4 feels like a missed opportunity and THQ Nordic is wasting a potentially profitable new installment by taking so long. Darksiders: Genesis was less of a new installment and more of a spin-off. But, it was par for the course for the franchise that is known for copying others and it gave audiences one of the best dungeon crawling games in years. If nothing else, all of this talk about a potential Darksiders 4 should embolden THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games that the fan interest is still there. All they have to do now is to deliver on expectations.
