After the narrative-driven action RPG made its debut on the PS3 in 2013, Sony and Naughty Dog released a controversial but still highly successful sequel, The Last of Us Part II, in 2020. Two years and most of the COVID-19 pandemic later, the wheels on the rest of the studio’s The Last of Us projects are finally set in motion. For starters, The Last of Us Part 1, a remake of the 2013 title, is coming out in September. Meanwhile, a multiplayer spin-off is set to come out in the next few years. Finally, HBO is starting to reveal more about the live-action adaptation. HBO recently teased fans with their first official look at Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively. Now, an HBO exec just clued us in on when the first season will be coming out. According to the HBO Chief Content Officer, Casey Bloys, HBO’s The Last of Us will premiere “closer to early 2023”. Bloys did not elaborate further, but what we can take away from this is that HBO’s The Last of Us could air by spring 2023 or anytime between March and June. Even if this is still ways away, we understand why HBO isn’t rushing it. In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, HBO’s The Last of Us has to work its way around Pedro Pascal, who is also the lead star in The Mandalorian. The Star Wars spin-off is coming back for a third go in February and a fourth one is already in the works. Hopefully, HBO will humor audiences with a trailer soon. We’re happy to see the leaked set videos recreate iconic moments from the game, but a better look would be nice. Franchise fans know that Naughty Dog always has an update or two planned for Outbreak Day, which is now known as The Last of Us Day, on September 26. It wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye out for this particular day a little over two months from now.
