“It’s unrealistic, the current business model that they have,” Ubisoft’s VP for Partnership and Revenue Chris Early stated regarding Steam in 2019. “It doesn’t reflect where the world is today in terms of game distribution.” Since Ubisoft left Steam in 2019, many of its titles were distributed via the Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and The Division 2 are some of the AAA titles that are not part of the Steam catalog of Ubisoft. Well, that is all about to change as Ubisoft has announced that it will be returning to Steam. Ubisoft has listed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800, and Roller Champions as the games that will be offered on Steam. “We’re constantly evaluating how to bring our games to different audiences wherever they are, while providing a consistent player ecosystem through Ubisoft Connect,” a spokesperson for Ubisoft shared with The Verge about its comeback on Steam. “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800, and Roller Champions are among the Ubisoft titles that will be releasing on Steam.” The company spokesperson also shared that Ubisoft “never stopped our relationship with Valve.” Ubisoft continued to release DLCs for its existing games on the Steam platform. However, the statement did not mention if Ubisoft would be publishing all its upcoming titles on the platform or a case-to-case basis. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was originally launched for PC on Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store in 2020. It is the only title that has not yet been published on Steam. There have been several leaks hinting at the return of Ubisoft to Steam. A version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for Steam was seen in Ubisoft Connect’s database, which led to rumors that the game would be coming to Valve’s game store. A Steam version of Roller Champions was also leaked via a SteamDB entry. The record was briefly viewable but has since been hidden. The timing of Ubisoft’s return to Steam coincides with the final update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which comes out on December 6. The Last Chapter is additional story content that will wrap up the plot of the game. The Last Chapter will also mark the end of the rotating seasonal festivals. Unfortunately, the fan-requested New Game Plus mode will not be coming with the final update to Valhalla. It will be one of the few modern Assassin’s Creed titles without a New Game Plus option. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800, and Roller Champions will be available on Steam on December 6, 2022.
