One player, ‘Chillenge’, went on Reddit to blast Sledgehammer for a lackluster Battle Pass. Furthermore, the user worries that this trend will become the norm for future Battle Passes. Of course, this is against Activision Blizzard’s best interests. The publisher loses revenue the fewer people that buy a Battle Pass for Call of Duty. But, Activision Blizzard needs to do something to make the Battle Pass enticing, to which Chillenge makes a handful of important points. Specifically, Chillenge listed everything that they felt that was lacking or wrong in Vanguard’s Season 2 Battle Pass, such as:
25 Tiers worth of Double XP tokens. 18 Tiers worth of Weapon Blueprints, but only 9 Legendary ones. 10 Tiers worth of Emblems. 8 Tiers worth of Callings Cards. 6 Tiers worth of Charms.
Every seasonal Battle Pass comes with 100 Tiers of new in-game content for Call of Duty. Players don’t have to spend money for it, as 20 Tiers come free. Players can also unlock every Tier just by playing, which means that it’s a very cost-effective purchase. But, at the same time, a Battle Pass costs 1,000 COD points or $9.99 to purchase. When you consider the time and money invested to get through 100 Tiers of any Battle Pass, players have the right to expect something of value in return. Unfortunately, with 67 reward Tiers that players consider as “low effort”, the Season 2 Battle Pass isn’t worth spending money on or grinding for. The criticism of Vanguard’s Season 2 Battle Pass comes at a tumultuous time for Activision Blizzard. The company is in the middle of an acquisition that will be finalized in mid-2023. Until then, fans are already looking forward to a Call of Duty Warzone sequel by Infinity Ward alongside Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, which was announced earlier this month. Also, despite all the negativity, Activision continues to invest in its marquee shooters, with the publisher reportedly planning a crossover event with King Kong and Godzilla.
